The home-organization pioneer operates more than 50 stores in nearly 20 states, mostly in major cities in California, Illinois, New York, and Texas, as well as the District of Columbia. It also runs an e-commerce site. The company offers shipping across the US and to Canada, as well as same-day delivery in New York City. Stores carry more than 10,000 items; the firm's Elfa brand of wire shelving (made in Sweden) accounts for a chunk of sales. Founded in 1978, The Container Store is majority owned by private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners.
